Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has said its central assistant international affairs secretary and former president of Cumilla district (west), Zisan Ahmed Pradhan, has been missing for more than 20 hours. Expressing deep concern, the organization demanded his swift and safe recovery.

The group’s central president Nurul Islam and secretary general Sibgatullah made the demand in a joint statement on Friday, June 12.

In the statement, they said Zisan Ahmed Pradhan went missing after leaving the Daudkandi Model Mosque in Cumilla following Isha prayers on Thursday night, June 11. The family informed police immediately after the incident but, with no progress, family members went to the police station again early Friday. After a long wait, they were able to meet police at 9 a.m.

The leaders alleged that no visible effort by the administration to find and rescue Zisan was evident. Despite expectations of swift action given the gravity of the case, they said the family was dismayed and anxious over the conduct of police.

The statement also said a gang had abducted Zisan and was demanding a ransom from the family. The phone number being used by the abductors was still active, and that number and other information had been provided to the administration, the group said. It said the failure to take effective action even then had raised questions.

Shibir leaders said the organization had contacted police headquarters, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and RAB to demand swift rescue efforts. They alleged that, despite assurances from the relevant authorities, no visible progress had been made so far.

In the statement the leaders said: “In the current situation, such an incident is alarming. We strongly urge the administration to rescue Zisan Ahmed Pradhan safely and unharmed and return him to his family without delay.”

The statement was issued by Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir’s central publicity secretary, S.M. Farhad.
