A day-long free medical camp organised by the social organisation Jagjapida Student Organisation has been held in Jashore’s Chougacha, where more than 1,000 patients of various ages, including children, received treatment. The camp, on the Garibpur Adarsha Vidyapith grounds in the upazila on Saturday (6 June), saw the Jashore Medicine Bank supply necessary medicines free of charge. It was organised to mark the 25th anniversary of Jagjapida’s founding, running from 9am to 5pm with experienced and specialist doctors from Jashore.
Patients from several villages — Garibpur, Jamlata, Jahangirpur, Pitambarpur and Hudafatepur in the upazila’s Singjhuli union — received care. Jagjapida Student Organisation president Ashanur Rahman presided, with Jashore Medicine Bank president and Jashore 250-bed General Hospital superintendent Husain Safayat as chief guest. Special guests included Garibpur Adarsha Vidyapith managing-committee president and former upazila BNP president Shamsul Arif Shanti, upazila BNP senior vice-president Younus Ali Dafadar, vice-president Husain Ahmed, Jashore MM College Bengali department head Mostafizur Rahman, head teacher Nur Islam and Jagjapida general secretary Abdullah Al-Mamun.
Specialist doctors who treated patients included Dhaka Dental College oral and dental surgeon and former Jashore 250-bed General Hospital superintendent Dr Yakub Ali Molla; Jashore Medical College Hospital eye specialist and surgeon Dr Masum Reza; surgeon and obstetrics-gynaecology specialist Dr Jasmin Akter Tanima; Jashore 250-bed General Hospital medicine assistant registrar Dr Saifur Rahman; Jashore Medical College Hospital child specialist and assistant professor Dr Jasim Uddin Sarkar; and child gastro-liver, nutrition and paediatric specialist Dr Umme Jannatul Ferdous. Jagjapida Student Organisation was formed in 2001 around the unity, humanitarian values and social development of students from five villages of Singjhuli union; its founding president was journalist Mursalin Nomani, a son of Chougacha, former president and general secretary of the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) and currently city editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
