Chuadanga woman killed by microbus visiting daughter

An elderly woman, Chhokina Khatun, 55, was killed by a speeding microbus while crossing a road during a visit to her daughter’s home in Chuadanga Sadar upazila. The accident occurred around noon on Friday (September 18) in the Hatikata village area of the Chuadanga-Meherpur highway. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled immediately after the crash. The deceased, Chhokina Khatun, was the wife of the late Chalim Uddin of Nidhikunda village in the district’s Jibannagar upazila.

According to local and police sources, Chhokina Khatun had come four or five days earlier to visit the home of Md Manik’s wife, her own daughter, Ferdousi Khatun, 25, in Hatikata village. On Friday around noon, she was crossing the Chuadanga-Meherpur road in the area when a Meherpur-bound microbus travelling from Chuadanga struck her hard, and she was crushed under the vehicle. She suffered severe injuries across her body and died on the spot.

Chuadanga Sadar police station officers arrived quickly at the scene after being alerted to the accident. Police prepared an inquest report on the victim’s body and seized the microbus, taking it into custody. Chuadanga Sadar police station’s officer-in-charge (OC), Maruf Rahman, said the woman died on the spot after being struck by the microbus while crossing the road. He said the driver fled after the accident, but the vehicle had been seized, and further legal proceedings are under way.
