Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has said the SSC exams will begin on 7 January next year as per the routine announced after consultation with stakeholders. “After talking to stakeholders, we announced that the exam will start and finish before Ramadan. There is no information of any objection from stakeholders, but I have heard repeated questions from you [journalists] about the start date of the SSC and equivalent exams, and heard the demand to push it back by a month,” he said. The main aim, he said, is to avoid wasting valuable time from the lives of millions of students by holding the exam needlessly late after the course is finished. He spoke at a press conference at the Ministry of Education on Monday (8 June).

Present were the prime minister’s adviser on education and primary and mass education, Mahdi Amin; State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj; Secondary and Higher Education Division secretary Abdul Khalek; Technical and Madrasa Education Division secretary Md Dawood Mia; Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) director general professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel; and National University vice-chancellor professor Dr A S M Amanullah.

Answering a question, the minister said the SSC examinees’ syllabus finishes in June 2026. “We wanted to take it at some point in 2027, either before or after Ramadan. We discussed it with stakeholders, and the suggestion came that the exam should finish before Ramadan — so we wanted to start on 7 January and finish on 8 February. But in the meantime you are reacting, and we are observing that too. We wanted the exam to be held, and many people want that. So for now we have given the routine, and we hope it stays as it is, since we have discussed it with stakeholders,” he said.

The minister said that, based on the 2027 SSC exam, future session backlogs must be avoided and universities must finish their courses on time — a three-year course taking three years and a five-year course five years, with no delay or session backlog — and that efforts are being made to streamline the intermediate exams the same way so no time is wasted. He said the SSC results would be published on 20 July, the directive having already been given, and that the routine and everything else for the exam had been announced.
