Sixty percent of Israeli citizens believe the country faces a “real and clear” risk of civil war, according to a survey published by the Jewish People Policy Institute, Al Jazeera reported.
The survey also found that 79% of Israelis rated the past year as “bad” from a social perspective, while 49% said they are pessimistic about the future.
Additionally, 52% of respondents believe there is a “high probability” of a political assassination targeting the country’s prime minister or another top political figure.
Yedidia Stern, president of the think tank, said Israeli society “shows remarkable resilience and optimism but is deeply divided and polarized.”
“The public sees internal division as the biggest threat. We urgently need a long-term action plan to build solidarity and mutual trust,” Stern said.
