The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-12 arrested two people, including an online gambling agent, in a raid in the Ruerkandi (Paschimpara) area of Raipur union, Gangni upazila, Meherpur. Three smartphones, five SIM cards, and 10,280 taka in cash used in the online gambling operation were seized.
The operation was carried out by a team from RAB-12’s CPC-3 Meherpur camp based on confidential information at approximately 1:10 a.m. Saturday in the Ruerkandi (Paschimpara) area of Ward 7, Raipur union, under Gangni police station jurisdiction.
The arrested individuals were identified as Anwar, 35, son of the late Rabiul Haque of Ruerkandi (Paschimpara) village, and Md Hasan, 19, son of Babul Hossain of Sholotaka union in the same area.
RAB said the two were arrested during a raid on a room at Anwar’s own cattle farm. During initial questioning, they reportedly admitted to running online gambling operations through various websites via the 1XBET platform, according to RAB.
A case has been filed at Gangni police station under sections 16, 17, 19(1), and 25 of the Gambling Prevention Act, 2026.
RAB-12 Company Commander, Additional Superintendent of Police Sudipta Sarkar, PPM, said in a press release issued at 3:30 a.m. that RAB’s operations against online gambling and all forms of crime will continue in the future.
