Police in Khulna detained the wife of Chingri Palash, a listed member of the criminal gang “B Company”, after weapons and ammunition were found at his house, and later released her. Police said the allegations against her were not borne out. However, a man named Rifat Talukder, 22, has been shown as arrested.
Mohammad Ahaduzzaman Mia, deputy commissioner of the Khulna Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB), said on Thursday afternoon (September 24) that police learned from a tip-off at around 2:30am on Wednesday night that several men aged 20 to 22 from Jashore were staying at the Gobarchaka house of Chingri Palash, a jailed top criminal of the city. Police surrounded the house and arrested a young man named Rifat Talukder there. On the basis of his confession, a room in the house was searched and three foreign-made pistols, nine rounds of ammunition and four magazines were recovered.
Rifat Talukder is the son of Md Idris Talukder and Nasima Begum of the Shankarpur bus terminal area of Jashore town. A case has been filed against him under the Arms Act.
Earlier in the afternoon, the same DB deputy commissioner had said Chingri Palash’s wife was arrested with the weapons and ammunition in the raid on the house. He had said that during questioning she told police she moved to Dhaka with her two children after her husband’s arrest and took a job at a garment factory, and did not want to return to her husband’s household. Her brother-in-law later brought her to Khulna on the false claim that her husband had been granted bail, and she was not involved in the matter, she said. At that point he said a case would be filed against her under the Arms Act over the recovery of the weapons.
According to police sources, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Chingri Palash in Jashore on December 7, 2025, and he is now in jail. He faces 12 cases, including eight murder cases at Sonadanga police station, as well as cases over drugs, extortion, assault and under the Explosive Substances Act.
