Hundreds of thousands of people gathered in Tehran on Monday for the funeral procession of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with crowds lining designated procession routes from early morning.

Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported that participants carried Iranian national flags and photographs of Khamenei. Mourners chanted slogans of tribute and called for national unity throughout the procession.

People from all walks of life — men, women, young and old — joined the funeral cortege along Azadi Road and surrounding areas. The atmosphere was filled with prayers, mourning, and funeral hymns. Civilian and military officials joined the public in accompanying the casket.

According to the official schedule, ceremonies will continue in the holy city of Qom on Tuesday. On Wednesday, special farewell prayers and funeral rites will be held in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala. The funeral prayer will take place in Mashhad on Thursday, followed by burial at the Imam Reza shrine grounds.
