India is sending a high-level delegation to attend the funeral and burial of late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Al Jazeera reported.

The delegation will include India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Shri Pabitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement: “The high-level representation at the funeral reflects the long-standing relationship between the two countries and the importance of people-to-people ties. It also reflects the strong foundation of political and economic cooperation.”

Funeral ceremonies for Khamenei will begin on July 4 in Tehran, with a procession at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla. The burial will take place on July 9 in Mashhad, his hometown.

Iran’s interior ministry said scholars, religious leaders, and representatives of various religious communities from more than 90 countries have expressed their readiness to attend the farewell, funeral, and burial ceremonies.

Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, deputy interior minister for security affairs and secretary of the funeral organizing committee, said more than 30 countries have formally applied to send high-level delegations. He noted significant interest from prominent academics, religious figures, and political leaders around the world.
