Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has repelled an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to illegally push eight people into Bangladesh across the Daulatpur border in Kushtia. Faced with the BGB’s resistance, those people returned into India across the river.

The incident took place at 5:10 a.m. on Friday in the area near border pillar 152/1-S, under the responsibility of Joypur BOP in the Mohishkundi area of Pragpur union, part of the Kushtia battalion (47 BGB).

The BGB said members of the Char Meghna camp of India’s 146 BSF Battalion tried to bring eight unidentified people into Bangladesh by swimming across the river. Among them were two men, four women and two transgender people.

The BGB also said its patrol team immediately detected the incident, quickly took position at the border and barred the people from entering Bangladesh. Faced with the BGB’s firm stance, they were forced to return into India across the river. The BSF’s push-in attempt thus failed.

The commanding officer of Kushtia’s 47 BGB battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Roni, said the BGB is always alert and ready to prevent any kind of illegal entry and attempt to violate border law. The BGB is discharging its duty with professionalism, alertness and responsibility to ensure border security and maintain peace and order in the border area, he said.

This year, the BSF has made several attempts to push people into Bangladesh across the Daulatpur border under the responsibility of Kushtia’s 47 BGB. Among them, on June 12, 12 people including women and children; the same night, another 12 people across the Bilgathua and Joypur borders; on June 14, one person across the Challishpara border; and most recently on June 25, one person across the Munshiganj Ghat border were sought to be brought into Bangladesh. In every case, the BGB’s alert stance — and in some places the cooperation of local people — foiled all the push-in attempts.
