Islami Chhatra Shibir’s Kushtia city unit honoured 550 meritorious students who achieved GPA-5 in the SSC and equivalent examinations, in a ceremony meant to encourage and recognise their achievement. The event was held at the district Shilpakala Academy. Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir’s former central president, Jahidul Islam, attended as chief guest. Special guests included Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RAKSU) vice-president Mostakur Rahman Zahid and Islamic University Arabic language and literature department professor Dr Kamrul Hasan.
Speakers at the event included Chhatra Shibir Kushtia district unit president Md Imran Biswas, “July warrior” Hafez Selim Reza, and city unit secretary Parvez Musharraf. The event was chaired by Islami Chhatra Shibir Kushtia city unit president Hafez Abdullah Al Mamun.
In his address as chief guest, Jahidul Islam stressed the importance of students focusing on their studies, developing strong ethics, and setting clear goals for life. “Students must stay aware and express gratitude to the Almighty Creator,” he said. “Remembering that arrogance and oppression end in ruin, they should work for people’s welfare with humanity.” He added: “Students must not be satisfied with good exam results alone; they need to go deeper into knowledge and dedicate themselves to seeking it. As an ideological organisation, Chhatra Shibir tries to support and encourage students in their education, and to play a role in their moral and ideological development.”
Meritorious students at the event were presented with honour mementos, copies of the holy Quran and various other gifts. Students who attended said their previous impressions of Chhatra Shibir had changed considerably after coming to the event, and that they were especially pleased to receive a copy of the Quran alongside the memento and gifts. Many said they hoped to stay involved in ideological and welfare-oriented work in the years ahead.
