The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has cut the price of gold, with the new rates taking effect from 10am on Tuesday. The decision was taken at a meeting of BAJUS’s standing committee on pricing and price monitoring, and was announced in a notice signed by the committee’s chairman, Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen.
Under the new decision, the price of the best quality 22-carat gold jewellery has been cut by 2,216 taka a bhori (11.664 grams) and set at 2 lakh 20 thousand 858 taka including VAT.
The price of 21-carat gold jewellery has been cut by 2,100 taka a bhori to 2 lakh 10 thousand 943 taka, that of 18-carat gold by 1,750 taka to 1 lakh 81 thousand 200 taka, and that of traditional-method gold by 1,458 taka to 1 lakh 48 thousand 16 taka.
BAJUS had raised the price of gold by the same amounts on Monday. At that time the price of 22-carat gold jewellery was raised by 2,216 taka a bhori to 2 lakh 23 thousand 74 taka. The increase made a day earlier has therefore been withdrawn in full within just 24 hours, returning prices to their previous level.
Prices have been cut for silver jewellery as well as gold. Under the new rates, the price of 22-carat silver jewellery has been cut by 59 taka a bhori to 4,607 taka including VAT.
BAJUS has also cut the price of 21-carat silver jewellery by 175 taka to 4,374 taka, that of 18-carat silver by 116 taka to 3,791 taka, and that of traditional-method silver by 116 taka a bhori to 2,858 taka.
