The Islamic Foundation has noticed that a fraud ring has recently been contacting imams, khatibs, muezzins and mosque management committee members at the district, upazila and union levels across the country, using the name and identity of the Islamic Foundation’s head office.

In a notice on Saturday, the Islamic Foundation said the fraud ring was contacting people sometimes by telephone, sometimes by mobile phone, and sometimes through social media or various online channels, trying to collect personal and financial information from those concerned. The notice said the head office of the Islamic Foundation, or any of its district or upazila offices, never collected such information through unauthorized persons or numbers. If anyone sought a bank account number, OTP, PIN, mobile-banking information or any other confidential information in the name of financial benefits, honorariums, allowances, grants or any other government benefit, there was a very high chance it was part of a fraud.

In this situation, the notice made a special request to all imams, khatibs, muezzins, mosque management committee members and others concerned not to give any personal or financial information through unknown persons or suspicious phone calls, and not to share bank account numbers, mobile-banking account information, OTPs, PINs or any other secret information with anyone. If anyone demanded any information or money using the name of the Islamic Foundation, they should verify it through the relevant district or upazila office, it said, and should promptly inform the nearest law-enforcement agency and the relevant Islamic Foundation authorities of any attempt at fraud or suspicious contact.
