The United Arab Emirates has agreed to release billions of dollars in funds to Iran under special conditions. The news emerged just as talks to end the war between Tehran and Washington reached their final stage. Reuters reported the information citing four sources familiar with the matter.
The report said that because of U.S. sanctions, billions of dollars from Iran’s oil sales are stuck in foreign banks. Diplomats said that through the ongoing talks, that vast sum of blocked money could also be released.
During several weeks of war between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States and Israel, Tehran launched repeated attacks on the UAE. Despite repeated appeals, Iran did not pull back from the attacks at the time.
Two regional sources told Reuters that the United Arab Emirates had agreed to release a total of $10 billion (1,000 crore) to Iran. More than $3 billion (300 crore) has already been provided.
The total amount the UAE will release to Iran could reach $20 billion (2,000 crore). The sources also said the UAE would release the money only on condition that Iran carry out no further attacks. The first installment of $3 billion (300 crore) has already been paid.
