Cristiano Ronaldo has won almost everything there is to win in football. Only a World Cup has eluded him. Now the Portugal captain is set to feature in his sixth World Cup.
But first, questions have been raised about his fitness. He missed several easy chances in his last two matches. He then faced questions at a news conference. On Friday afternoon, reporters questioned Ronaldo about his fitness.
The 41-year-old star, however, dismissed the doubts. He answered for himself by pointing to his performances in the warm-up matches against Chile and Nigeria. Ronaldo said: “Physically? I’m fine. Haven’t you watched the matches?”
Even past 40, Ronaldo’s scoring edge has not dulled. In the 2025-26 Saudi Pro League, he scored 28 goals and provided two assists in 30 matches for Al-Nassr, taking 161 shots.
Carrying this success and momentum, Ronaldo now wants to take Portugal forward at the World Cup. He also expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparation.
Ronaldo said: “The preparation has gone well, but it was also tiring, because we have worked very hard. We played well in the matches. But the real thing is on the 17th, in the first match, when the ball starts rolling and the pressure really builds. That is when the true champions emerge.”
