There is intense speculation over the future of Atletico Madrid’s Argentine forward Julian Alvarez. The star is keen to move to Barcelona in search of a new challenge. But Atletico are unwilling to let go of this key player. Amid this tug-of-war and speculation, the club’s coach, Diego Simeone, has given his reaction.
Speaking at a news conference about the transfer complications and Alvarez’s position, Simeone was very clear. He said: “The situation is completely clear. The club’s administration has taken a decision that Miguel Angel explained very well. But from a footballing point of view, we are delighted to have a player like Julian in the squad. We will give him every kind of support so he can keep improving and grow even bigger.”
Drawing a comparison to explain Alvarez’s current transfer situation, Simeone recalled the example of former Atletico star Antoine Griezmann. He said: “In past years we went through such a time with Griezmann too, when he was forced to leave the club and later returned. After returning, he had to prove his quality and his standing in football through his performance on the pitch.”
While Barcelona are currently front-runners to sign Alvarez, European giants such as Real Madrid, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping an eye on the Argentine striker. But Atletico’s firm stance has made offers and negotiations quite complicated.
Despite the various rumours over the player’s transfer, Simeone expressed optimism about the overall situation, concluding: “Everything will be sorted out in time and find a solution.”
