A man had just withdrawn 3.8 million taka from a bank in the capital’s Dhanmondi when three snatchers on a motorcycle grabbed his bag of cash and fled.
The victim immediately gave chase. At one point, one of the snatchers fell off the motorcycle onto the road. Locals then caught him, along with a revolver and four bullets.
The incident occurred around noon yesterday, Sunday, in the Dhanmondi Lake area of the capital. Police later carried out an operation and arrested two more people involved in the snatching.
News of the incident emerged today, Monday, through the National Emergency Service 999. Officials with the service said a man had called 999 to report the incident after it happened. Dhanmondi police station officers went to the scene after receiving the report. The man caught by locals, who was carrying a pistol, was arrested. He was identified as Tanvir Abedin, 41.
Dhanmondi police and Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) later carried out a joint operation with Tanvir. The operation led to the arrest of two more people connected to the snatching ring: Md Majbur Rahman, 60, and Md Zakir Hossain, alias Captain Zakir, 60.
