DHAKA — The government on Thursday simultaneously appointed new vice-chancellors at 10 public universities, the Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Division said in 10 separate notifications issued May 14.
The universities receiving new vice-chancellors are Islamic University, Cumilla University, Begum Rokeya University, Barishal University, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Rangamati Science and Technology University, Pabna University of Science and Technology and Jamalpur Science and Technology University.
According to the notifications, Professor Dr. A.K.M. Matinur Rahman of the Public Administration Department has been appointed vice-chancellor of Islamic University, succeeding Professor Dr. Nakib Mohammad Nasrullah.
Professor Dr. M.M. Shariful Karim of the English Department becomes the new vice-chancellor of Cumilla University.
Professor Dr. Anisur Rahman of Dhaka University’s Marketing Department has been named vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University.
Dr. Md. Mamun Or Rashid, dean of the Faculty of Oceanography at Patuakhali Science and Technology University, becomes the new vice-chancellor of Barishal University.
Dr. Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, pro-vice-chancellor of Jamalpur Science and Technology University, has been appointed vice-chancellor of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University.
Professor Dr. Golam Rabbani is the new vice-chancellor of Noakhali Science and Technology University. He was previously a professor at Dhaka University’s Institute of Social Welfare and Research.
Professor Dr. Mohammad Iqbal of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology becomes the new vice-chancellor of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology. He currently also serves as vice-chancellor of North East University Bangladesh in Sylhet.
Professor Dr. Joynul Abedin Siddique of Chittagong University’s Chemistry Department has been named vice-chancellor of Rangamati Science and Technology University. He previously served as treasurer of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University.
Professor Dr. Abul Hasnat Moha. Shamim, treasurer of Bangladesh Open University and a member of its Soil Science Department, has been appointed vice-chancellor of Pabna University of Science and Technology.
Professor Dr. Mohammad Amir Hossain Bhuiya of Jahangirnagar University’s Environmental Science Department becomes the new vice-chancellor of Jamalpur Science and Technology University.
Under the terms of appointment, the new vice-chancellors will serve four-year terms from the date they take office. While serving, they will receive salaries, allowances and benefits equivalent to their current positions and must reside on campus full-time as the universities’ chief executives, the notifications said. The president and chancellor may revoke any of the appointments at any time, they added.
