“Jalpaban,” a film centered on the lives and waiting of people in Bangladesh’s haor wetland regions, is now in production. The film is being directed by young filmmaker Rajan Talukder. Filming began August 15 in the haor areas of Sunamganj.
Runa Khan will play the central character, named “Nirala.”
Speaking to media about the film, Runa Khan said “Jalpaban” is essentially a story about waiting. She plays the character Nirala, and the film brings out the story of the lives of people in the haor region. She said she believes audiences will be given a quality film.
Alongside Runa Khan, the film’s two other lead roles are played by Sushanta Prithviraj, a member of the theater troupe Prachyanat, and Samiul Haque, a student in Jahangirnagar University’s theater and performance studies department. Several local performers have also joined the cast, many of them with a background in theater.
Several films featuring Runa Khan are reportedly awaiting release, including Zahid Hossain’s “Leela Manthan” and Masud Pathik’s “Bok.”
Runa Khan began her acting career in 2005, playing the character “Sumona” in the popular children’s series Sisimpur. She currently works successfully across both film and television. In 2017, she won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Halda.”
