At least 32 students of an educational institution in Tangail have fallen ill after drinking water from the school tubewell, with the students given primary treatment quickly at the Nagarpur Upazila Health Complex.
The students fell ill on Tuesday (June 23) morning from poisoning of the tubewell water at Mamudnagar High School in the Mahmudnagar union of Nagarpur upazila, Tangail.
Two students who became seriously ill have been referred to Tangail Medical College Hospital for better treatment, and five students were given primary treatment and told by hospital authorities to rest at home.
Speaking to students and teachers, it was learnt that the incident happened after someone applied to the school tubewell this morning a liquid pesticide of the kind used on farmland.
Students, guardians, teachers and members of civil society have demanded a swift investigation and strict punishment of those responsible.
