A cheating allegation centred on a Jamdani saree, raised nearly 10 months ago, has come back into discussion. After a court summons, actress Tanjin Tisha has spoken about it, saying she respects the law and will present her position in court. The complaint against the actress and model came back into the spotlight after a court recently summoned her to appear on 13 August.

At a news conference after the summons, Tanjin Tisha said: “I will certainly go to court. I had wanted to speak about what happened to me, but since the matter is sub judice I have not said anything publicly in detail. I respect the country’s laws. I believe I will get a fair trial and will handle the matter legally.” Referring to her 14-year acting career, Tisha questioned how reasonable it was to accuse her of cheating over a saree worth only 27,000 to 28,000 taka. “I have worked hard for years to establish myself as an artist. There is no question of cheating over a 27,000-taka saree from an online shop. I believe the audience will understand,” she said.

The plaintiff is the owner of an online clothing firm. The complaint alleges that Tanjin Tisha contacted the firm on social media expressing interest in a Jamdani saree, which was then sponsored on condition of promotion, but that she did not carry out the promised promotion or pay for the saree. Tisha has denied the allegation from the start, saying the saree was given to her as a gift. After the complaint became public she wrote on social media: “So taking a gift makes me a cheat! Ha ha! And if you wanted a photoshoot, where’s the fee? Strange woman entrepreneur! Salute to your gift!” Tanjin Tisha said she would appear in court on 13 August and present her position through the legal process.
