Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haque questioned whether Bangladesh’s national footballers should play informal local matches while receiving regular government sports allowances and professional club contracts.

Several national-team players have recently been seen in local “khep” matches in Tangail and Jhenaidah, Haque said while watching a football match in Kalshi on Monday night.

Haque said the government paid players a monthly allowance as professional recognition and that appearing in local matches raised questions about their commitment to the country and to their own professional responsibilities.

He said he had not yet spoken with the Bangladesh Football Federation president because of his schedule but planned to discuss the matter within a few days. The first step would be to warn players involved, he said, followed by possible action.
