A grocery shop owner, Hridoy Mia, 25, was seriously wounded when muggers hacked him with a machete in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur. The incident took place around 7:45am on Thursday in the Sadeque Khan Road area.
He was riding his motorcycle to Krishi Market to collect goods when a gang of four or five people blocked his path. They hacked his back and waist with a machete, then fled with his Suzuki motorcycle and 20,000 taka in cash.
Hridoy’s friend, Mohammad Biplob, said Hridoy was riding to Krishi Market in the morning when four or five unidentified muggers blocked his motorcycle on reaching the Sadeque Khan Road area. He was then hacked in the back and waist with a machete, and the muggers fled with his motorcycle and the 20,000 taka he was carrying. On receiving the news, Hridoy was rescued in a critically injured state and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he received initial treatment before being moved elsewhere.
Md Habibur Rahman, inspector in charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, confirmed that the injured businessman had received treatment at the hospital. Hridoy’s home village is in Durgapur, Chauddagram upazila, Cumilla; his father’s name is Sabuj Mia. He currently lives in a rented house in the Shankar area of Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
