A farmer, Md Alef, 37, was electrocuted and killed while watering his vegetable field in Bheramara, Kushtia.

The accident occurred around 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, in Uttar Bhabanipur village, Dharampur union, in the upazila.

Alef, the victim, was the son of Ali Akbar of the same village.

According to local and family sources, Alef was extremely poor and landless. He leased land from others to grow vegetable seedlings, which he sold to local farmers to support his family.

As he did every day, he was watering seedlings at his nursery around 6:30 a.m. when he accidentally came into contact with an electrical wire, was electrocuted, and died at the scene.

Having lost the family’s only earning member, uncertainty now looms over the children’s education and the family’s overall expenses.

Local residents said Alef had worked hard to hold his family together. With his death, they said, the family is now completely without support, and they have appealed to well-off and compassionate members of society to stand by the family in this situation.
