Police have arrested M A Khalek, general secretary of Meherpur district Awami League, over an allegation that he tried to travel to India on a medical visa despite an existing travel ban. He was detained at the Darshana checkpoint immigration in Chuadanga on Thursday morning and later formally arrested by police.
According to immigration police sources, M A Khalek attempted to travel to India on a medical visa despite a legal travel restriction against him. The matter came to the attention of on-duty police officers as he was crossing immigration through the Darshana border. He was arrested soon after, and following the necessary legal process, M A Khalek was handed over to Darshana police station. Darshana checkpoint immigration in-charge SI Tuhin confirmed the matter.
