Digital transactions through Bangla QR are growing rapidly in Bangladesh. Since the launch of the “One Country, One QR” system, the average number of daily Bangla QR transactions has nearly doubled over the past week, while the total value of those transactions has roughly tripled over the same period.

The figures were announced in a press release issued Sunday, August 23.

Under the “One Country, One QR” initiative, the use of a single, unified Bangla QR code has been made mandatory nationwide since July 1, replacing the various separate QR codes previously used by different institutions.

At the start of July, Bangla QR handled an average of around 178,000 transactions a day, worth a combined average of about 373.3 million taka daily.

Over the past week, however, the average number of daily transactions has risen to around 303,000, while the average daily transaction value has climbed to about 1.1038 billion taka.

The number of merchants using Bangla QR has also risen significantly. As of July 21, around 1.6 million merchants were using Bangla QR; that number has since grown to more than 3 million.

Both private commercial banks and state-owned banks are working to expand Bangla QR services.

Industry sources say the growing use of Bangla QR will accelerate the spread of digital transactions across the country, creating the opportunity to build a simple, effective and inclusive digital payment system.
