BNP senior joint secretary general advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has called on the nation to stay vigilant so that the country’s dark, difficult days never return.
He made the remarks as chief guest at a memorial event for local Jubo Dal leader Harun, held Sunday afternoon at Bhorbazar Madrasa ground in Feni Sadar upazila.
He said hundreds of thousands of BNP leaders and activists once had to live with an uncertain future, as the fascist Awami League government spent 17 years playing a bloody game with those who held opposing views.
He handed over the keys to a gifted house to the family of local Jubo Dal leader Harunur Rashid, who was killed by police gunfire in Feni, on behalf of party chairperson and prime minister Tareque Rahman.
Rizvi said the wait is still not over for thousands of BNP families whose members were victims of enforced disappearance and killing under fascist Hasina’s rule. He said BNP does politics for democracy and for helpless people, and that every time BNP has come to power, it has worked to protect democracy and freedom and establish multi-party democracy.
Jubo Dal leader Harunur Rashid was killed by police gunfire during an anti-government procession in Feni on December 4, 2013.
Having received a place to live, Harun’s widow, Johra Begum, expressed gratitude to prime minister Tareque Rahman and BNP, saying her family’s suffering had ended under the prime minister’s care.
Special guests at the memorial included Amra BNP Paribar member secretary and agriculturist Mokshedul Momin Mithun; Feni-2 MP Professor Zainal Abdin; Amra BNP Paribar adviser and Narsingdi-5 MP engineer Ashraf Uddin Bakul; Feni-1 MP Munshi Rafiqul Alam; reserved-seat MP Rehana Akter Ranu; BNP national executive committee member Mashiur Rahman Biplob; and central assistant village affairs secretary Belal Ahmed.
District BNP convener Sheikh Farid Bahar presided over the event, with member secretary Alal Uddin Alal conducting proceedings. Also present were Sadar upazila BNP convener Fazlur Rahman Bakul, member secretary Aman Uddin Kaiser Sabbir, municipal BNP member secretary advocate Mezbah Uddin Bhuiyan, and district Jubo Dal convener Nasir Uddin Khandaker.
After the event, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi visited the grave of Jubo Dal leader Harunur Rashid, who was killed by police gunfire.
