CHUADANGA — Mangoes from Chuadanga will reach markets starting May 13, with atti, guti and bombai varieties harvested first under a calendar finalized at a meeting Sunday.
The schedule was set at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the deputy commissioner’s conference room. District administration officials, the agriculture department, growers and traders attended.
The meeting set staggered collection dates for different mango varieties: atti, guti and bombai from May 13; himsagar from May 20; langra from May 25; amrapali from June 5; fazli from June 15; haribhanga from June 20; banana from June 22; ashwina (BARI-4) from June 30; katimon from July 5; and gourmoti from July 31.
Deputy Commissioner Lutfun Nahar said orchard owners and traders must follow the calendar, and violators will be fined.
She said strict legal action will follow any evidence of chemicals or formalin being mixed with mangoes. Mobile courts of the district administration will regularly monitor markets, she added.
Also present were Additional Deputy Commissioner (overall) Nayan Kumar Rajbongshi, Department of Agricultural Extension Deputy Director Masudur Rahman Sarker and mango traders’ association president Abdul Kuddus Mahaldar.
