Pakistan middle-order batsman Salman Ali Agha has turned the anger and disappointment of being dropped from the national squad into strength, playing a stunning innings in domestic cricket. Dropped from the Test squad, Salman returned to domestic cricket and played the best innings of his career.
Salman Ali Agha had recently been with the Pakistan squad on their England tour. He even captained the side in the first Test of the series at Headingley in Babar Azam’s absence. But after the team fell well behind against England, Salman was dropped from the XI for the Lord’s Test.
In the opening round of the President’s Trophy Grade One, he came in to bat for Kingsmen Academy against Marcopolo IT Solutions. Coming to the crease with the team in trouble at 72 for 3, Salman reached a century on the first day.
But he did not stop there. The batter turned his century into a double century, and then into a stunning triple century. His previous highest individual score in first-class cricket had been 169. With this single innings, he reached his career’s first double and triple century milestones together.
Following Salman’s regal comeback after being dropped from the national side, his wife wrote a meaningful message on Instagram: “There’s nothing wrong with going back to basics. Sometimes it’s necessary — you should never let pride take over. The start was humble, and the end will be too.”
Salman Agha became the 23rd Pakistani batsman to score a triple century in first-class cricket.
