The BNP’s media cell has issued a warning over allegations of fake committees being formed and promoted in various districts of the country. It also called on activists and the public to be alert about various fake pages, groups and communities run on social media in the media cell’s name. The information was given in a notice signed on Monday (8 June) morning by professor Dr Mawdud Hossain Alamgir Pavel, convener of the BNP media cell.

The notice made clear that the formation and promotion of fake committees in the media cell’s name in some districts had recently come to its notice, and that various fake pages, groups and communities are active on social media in the BNP media cell’s name. It said that, apart from the central committee of the BNP media cell, no committee had been formed under this name at the district or metropolitan level anywhere in the country, and that any individuals or groups claiming to be approved committees of the media cell have no connection with it.

The notice warned that disciplinary charges would be brought against those issuing unauthorised and fake committees, and asked ordinary activists and journalists to be wary of such misleading information and lists.
