Anti-Corruption Commission raids home of former general Ziaul Ahsan

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is raiding the home of former army officer Major General (dismissed) Ziaul Ahsan at the Jolshiri housing project in Rupganj, Narayanganj. An ACC team began the operation there on Monday morning.

Tanzir Ahmed, assistant director and spokesman of the ACC’s public relations wing, confirmed the raid. He said a team led by ACC deputy director Md Hafizul Islam carried out the operation at the Jolshiri house on Monday morning, and that an inventory of the property inside the house was being drawn up.

On 7 January, following an ACC application, Ziaul Ahsan was shown arrested in a case over amassing wealth beyond his known income. He was arrested late at night from the Khilkhet area of the capital on 16 August 2024 and shown arrested in a murder case at New Market police station filed during the mass uprising. He has been in jail since then.

Ziaul Ahsan was most recently director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC), the national telecommunications surveillance agency. He was a prominent and influential officer during the 15 years of the Sheikh Hasina government. He was removed from service on 6 August, the day after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.
