Imran Hossain, chairman of Sadeek Agro — the firm at the centre of the much-discussed “goat scandal” — has been shown arrested in an attempted-murder case linked to the anti-discrimination movement.

On Monday (3 August), on a police application, the court of Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Md Jamshed Alam ordered him shown arrested in the case.

Prosecution deputy inspector Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed the development.

On 31 July, the investigating officer, Mohammadpur police station sub-inspector Rana Roy, applied to show Imran arrested in the case as a suspect. That day the court set Monday as the hearing date, with the accused present.

The application said that, in the initial investigation, sufficient evidence had been found that the accused, Imran Hossain, was connected to the incident in the case, and that it was essential to show him arrested.

After the hearing, the court ordered him shown arrested and sent to jail in the case.

According to the case statement, during the anti-discrimination student-people’s movement, on 3 August 2024, leaders and activists of the Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League and other associated bodies launched a coordinated attack on protesters at Bochila embankment, Bochila bridge, Bochila checkpost and adjacent areas under Mohammadpur police station. The attackers fired indiscriminately at protesters, leaving many shot and causing casualties. In that attack, the victim, Md Saleman, was shot in the thigh.

Over that incident, Md Saleman filed the case at Mohammadpur police station, bringing attempted-murder charges against 35 people including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Sadeek Agro owner Imran was arrested on 3 March 2025 by the police Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The next day, the court ordered him jailed in a money-laundering case at Mohammadpur police station over allegations of laundering 133 crore taka (1.33 billion). The much-discussed businessman has been held in jail since.
