CHOUGACHHA, Jashore — A mobile court fined a sand trader 50,000 taka (about $410) on Wednesday for illegally extracting sand from a canal bank in Niamatpur village of Chougachha upazila, officials said.
Executive Magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Farzana Islam imposed the penalty on Dulal Hossain, 39, son of the late Chakam Ali, after a midday operation in the village.
According to local accounts, a group had been illegally extracting and selling sand from cropland in Niamatpur. Acting on a tip from residents, Islam led a raid, ran the mobile court on the spot, fined Hossain and seized the extracted sand.
Islam confirmed the action and said the administration would continue such operations.
