CHOUGACHA, Jashore — Police have arrested Abdul Hadi, 45, a fugitive in the murder of Anichur Rahman in Jashore’s Chougacha upazila, officials said.
Hadi was detained Saturday night in Jagannathpur village of the upazila, police said. He is the son of Abdus Sattar of the same village.
According to police and local sources, Hadi and his associates hacked Anichur Rahman, a village doctor from Jagannathpur in the Singhajhuli union of the upazila, to death on Oct. 30, 2024. The victim’s wife filed a murder case at Chougacha police station accusing 11 people. The case was registered as No. 21 on Oct. 30, 2024.
After a lengthy investigation, Chougacha police Sub-Inspector Salimul Haque filed charges against six people in court and requested that five others be cleared. Those charged are Abdul Hadi, Ohidul Islam, Lentu Mia, Amin Uddin, Kurban Ali and Hujaifa Islam, all of Jagannathpur village. Most of the accused obtained bail from the court, but Hadi remained at large until officers acted on a tip and arrested him Saturday night.
Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Salimul Haque confirmed the arrest. Hadi was sent to court, which ordered him remanded to jail, the officer said.
