JHENAIDAH — Border Guard Bangladesh detained 13 Bangladeshis, including women and children, while they were trying to cross illegally into India through the Mahespur border, officials said.
Mahespur 58 BGB Assistant Director Munshi Emdadur Rahman confirmed the detentions on Saturday evening, Nov. 22.
The detainees include six women, four children and three men. The men were identified as Sajedul Mondal, 18, son of Inamul Mondal from Talsar village in the upazila; Rabbi Hossain, 21, son of Minhaj from Barta village in Tangail Sadar upazila; and Rabbi, 25, son of Abdul Majid from Kharshila village in the Kalihati police station area of the same district.
“Patrol teams under Mahespur 58 BGB’s Baghadanga and Benipur border outposts conducted the operation and detained 13 people for attempting to cross the border illegally,” Rahman said. The detained women and children will be sent to the Justice and Care Center in Jashore, while the others have been handed over to Mahespur police, he said.
