3 arrested over alleged gang-rape of expatriate’s wife in Sharsha

Police have arrested three young men over the alleged gang-rape of an expatriate’s wife in Jashore’s Sharsha.

Sharsha police station officer-in-charge (OC) Maruf Hossain confirmed the matter through a press release on Monday (June 15) afternoon.

A case naming five people was filed at Sharsha police station yesterday, June 14. Police later conducted an operation and arrested three of them. An operation to arrest the other two accused is continuing.

Those arrested are Hasib Al Hasan (19) of Chandudia Ghop village, Mehedi Hasan Tutul (25), and Abdur Rahman Imon (24) of Chhoto Basantapur village, in Nizampur union of Jashore’s Sharsha upazila, according to police. The two other accused, Abdullah Al Mamun (26) and Imon (24), remain at large.

According to the case statement, the accused intimidated the victim when she stepped out of her home on the night of June 12 and took her to a secluded place, where they raped her. The case statement says she was also threatened with death if she told anyone.

The victim’s family members later informed relatives and lodged a written complaint at Sharsha police station. Acting on the complaint, police filed a case and arrested three of the accused.

Sharsha police station OC Maruf Hossain said the allegation was being investigated with seriousness. The three detained accused have been sent to court, and police operations to arrest the two fugitive accused are continuing.
