Police seize 140 yaba pills in Jashore, arrest 2

JASHORE — Police arrested two suspected drug dealers and seized 140 yaba pills in separate raids in Chougachha upazila of Jashore district, officials said Saturday.

The two were sent to court on Saturday afternoon in separate cases filed under the Narcotics Control Act, police said.

According to police, officers raided the Chandpur area of the municipal town on Friday night and detained Maruf Hossain. They recovered 50 yaba tablets from him, police said. Hossain is the son of Atiyar Rahman, an Awami League leader from Chandpur village.

In a separate operation, the Jashore Detective Branch arrested Saiful Islam Fikir in Chandpur village and recovered 90 yaba pills from him, police said. Fikir, son of Aziz Box of Chanpur village in the municipal area, is an accused in the murder case of former municipal councilor Shahinur Rahman Shahin, according to police.

Mamunur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Chougachha police station, confirmed the arrests. “They have been sent to court,” he said.
