Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a large quantity of Indian drugs and smuggled goods in separate raids in the Gangni border area of Meherpur. In a separate raid, a young man was detained with 8g of cannabis and a motorcycle.
Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony, commander of Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB), gave the information in a press release sent at around 12:45pm on Wednesday (September 30).
According to the battalion, a BGB patrol from Kazipur border outpost raided a pond bank at Shewratala, in the area of Shewratala border outpost in Gangni upazila, on specific intelligence at around 4pm on Tuesday (September 29). It seized 95 bottles of ownerless Indian Phensedyl syrup with an estimated seizure value of Tk 38,000.
At around 9:30pm the same day, a raid at Rangmahal, in the area of Rangmahal border outpost in the same upazila, seized 2,800 ownerless Indian dexamethasone tablets and 59 packets of leaf bidi, with an estimated seizure value of Tk 843,245.
At around 10am on Wednesday (September 30), a BGB patrol raided the Doctor More area, in the area of Jamalpur border outpost, and detained Md Sony, 25, of Munshiganj village in Daulatpur upazila, with 8g of cannabis and a motorcycle. BGB said he would be handed over to Daulatpur police along with the seized items.
BGB said Indian drugs and smuggled goods worth a total of Tk 951,271 were seized in the separate raids.
Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) said special operations are being carried out alongside regular intelligence work to prevent drugs and smuggling in border areas, and such operations will continue to secure the border.
