Farmer and two cattle killed by lightning in Kurigram

A farmer, Anwar Hossain, 44, and two head of cattle have been killed by lightning in Kurigram. The incidents took place on Wednesday (June 3) afternoon in the district’s Bhurungamari and Nageshwari upazilas.

The dead farmer, Anwar Hossain, was the son of the late Hossain Ali of Purba Kedar village in Baldia union, Bhurungamari upazila.

Abdur Razzak, a member of Baldia Union Parishad, said several of them had been only about 200 yards away when the lightning struck, and that the deafening crack left everyone terrified.

Around the same time, two cows were killed by lightning at separate spots in Nageshwari upazila — one belonging to Ansar Ali of Paschim Bishnupur village in Kedar union, and another belonging to Santosh Kapali of Komedpur Begunipara village in Kaliganj union.

Arpan Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Kachakata police station, confirmed the farmer’s death and said police had been sent to the scene.
