Unidentified man’s body found covered in straw in Daulatpur

Police in Daulatpur, Kushtia, have recovered the body of an unidentified man, about 30, covered with straw beside a road in a deserted field. The body is believed to be two to three days old.

It was recovered at around 6:15am on Wednesday (September 30) beside a brick-paved (herringbone) road in the Kamalpur Satbil field of Piarpur union in the upazila.

According to local and police sources, farmer Sanaullah was going to work in the field in the morning when he saw several jackals pulling at something beside the deserted road. They ran off as he approached, and he saw a man’s body covered with grass and straw, partly eaten by the animals. He shouted, and other farmers in nearby fields came running. Daulatpur police recovered the body after being informed.

A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) crime scene team has been called from Jhenaidah to identify the man and establish the cause of death. Police say they are examining whether it was a planned killing and trying to identify the dead man.

“The body is about two to three days old. The face and parts of the body have been damaged. Work is under way to identify him, and a CID crime scene team is coming from Jhenaidah,” said Daulatpur police station officer-in-charge Khaledur Rahman.

“Local people said the body came out from under the straw as jackals pulled at it. We recovered it after hearing the news. Necessary steps will be taken after investigation,” said Delwar Hossain, additional superintendent of police for the Bheramara-Daulatpur circle.
