Students, teachers, relatives of the victim and local residents of Gazipur Science College held a human chain demanding the swift arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the killing of Mehedi Hasan Digonto, 18, a bright student at the college. Separately, Rupganj police station reported progress in the investigation, announcing the arrest of two suspects.
The roughly hour-long human chain, organized by Gazipur Science College, was held Thursday afternoon in the Bhurulia area on the Gazipur-Shimultali road. Teachers and students of the college, members of the victim’s family and local residents took part.
Speakers at the human chain, presided over by Shamim Majhi, chairman of Gazipur Science College’s governing body, included college principal Md Arifuzzaman; the victim’s father, Siraj Mridha; his mother, Rashida Begum; his uncle, Shaheen Tailor; his brother, Shanto Islam Rabbi; BNP leader and vice president Zainal Abedin Talukder; and teachers and students.
Speakers at the human chain said Mehedi Hasan Digonto was a bright student who was killed while out with friends. They said those involved must be swiftly brought to justice and given exemplary punishment. They also demanded that no innocent person be harassed during the investigation and that the real culprits be identified and brought to trial.
While speaking, the victim’s mother, Rashida Begum, broke down in tears. She demanded a proper trial for her son’s killing and called for the swift arrest of those involved.
After the human chain, a memorandum was submitted to the Gazipur deputy commissioner demanding the swift arrest and trial of those responsible for Digonto’s killing.
