The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 13 projects, including financial sector reform, at a total cost of Tk 15,712.63 crore.
Of this, Tk 10,118.43 crore will come from government funds, Tk 5,211.93 crore from foreign loans and Tk 382.28 crore from the implementing agencies’ own funds.
The projects were approved at an ECNEC meeting at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Tuesday, chaired by ECNEC chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The approved projects include “Integrated Health System Response to Fight Against TB, AIDS and Malaria”, the establishment of Patuakhali Medical College and Hospital, and “Financial Sector Support Project-2”.
They also include upgrading existing training centres for people with physical disabilities in Chattogram, Khulna and Rajshahi divisions; integrated flood and river management in the Chhoto Feni and Bamni river basins, including building the Musapur regulator; and protecting the Shibpur-Dhania and Meduna areas of Bhola Sadar and Daulatkhan upazilas from Meghna river erosion.
Other projects are widening important upazila and union roads in Rangpur division, rural infrastructure development in Madaripur, Shariatpur and Rajbari districts, technical and technological development of the SRB, land acquisition for a solar power plant at Sonagazi in Feni, and extending the power network in the three hill districts.
A revision of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport expansion project was also approved.
