All India United Democratic Front chief Badruddin Ajmal has sharply criticised Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “The chief minister’s constant divisive statements and policies have created an atmosphere of extreme fear and insecurity among the state’s Muslim community,” he alleged.
Ajmal made the allegation while speaking to journalists after winning the Binnakandi assembly seat in the recent state election, an Indian news outlet reported.
Himanta Biswa Sarma is number one when it comes to making hateful remarks, he said. Because of his politics and one controversial statement after another, Muslims in Assam are living in constant fear.
Ajmal claimed that although the current political situation has created deep insecurity among the minority community, they stand for peace and development in the state. Despite political tensions, Muslim society is fully committed to maintaining social harmony, he said.
Highlighting his organisation’s social work, the AIUDF chief said its charitable trust works for everyone’s education without any religious discrimination.
“Not only Muslim students but Hindu boys and girls also study equally at the Ajmal Foundation’s educational institutions,” he said plainly. “We have always worked for education and social development without discrimination.”
