Parvez takes five again as Bangladesh Under-23 seal series against Malaysia

One side had reached 89 without loss. The other had slipped to 58 for five. Yet it was the second of them that won at the Bashundhara Sports Complex in the capital on Friday. Bangladesh Under-23 beat the Malaysia national side by three wickets in the second one-day match to take the three-match series with a game to spare.

Sheikh Parvez Jibon, named player of the match in Bangladesh’s win in the first game, took the award again. As in the previous match he claimed five wickets, following his 5-16 in the opener with 5-23 from eight overs.

Aslam Khan Malik and Saif Ullah Malik gave Malaysia 89 for the opening wicket. Parvez broke the stand by bowling Saif for 25. Aslam held one end, but Malaysia lost wickets steadily and were all out for 176. He was ninth out, having made exactly 100 from 107 balls. Parvez took his fifth wicket by bowling the centurion.

In reply, Bangladesh Under-23 slipped to 58 for five before a sixth-wicket stand of 92 between Ahrar Amin and Debasish Sarkar rescued them. Both reached fifty. Debasish was out for 58 from 41 balls with five fours and four sixes, while Ahrar stayed to see the side home, finishing on 57 not out from 76 balls. Bangladesh Under-23 won in 31.5 overs.
