The Chattogram Education Board has postponed its Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations until July 16 because of floods and adverse weather. The English second-paper exam on July 8 and the information and communication technology exam scheduled for Saturday, July 11, had already been postponed, though exams under the country’s other boards are being held as scheduled.
Confirming the postponement, the chairman of the Inter-Education Board Coordination body and of the Dhaka Education Board, Professor Syed Aktaruzzaman, told the media that the decision to postpone the Chattogram board’s exams until July 16 had been taken at a Zoom meeting held with the education minister and various board chairmen.
Asked what decision might follow if flood conditions worsened in other districts, he said there was a flood forecast for the Sylhet board area, but that exams had been held there on Saturday as well; if the situation deteriorated, a similar announcement could be made there too.
Heavy rain has caused flooding in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and the hill districts since July 7. After water entered several exam centers, the July 8 exam was postponed, and as the flood situation worsened, the July 11 exam was called off as well. This year, the exams are being held nationwide on uniform question papers.
