Nine more children die of measles-related illness in 24 hours, Bangladesh reports

Nine more children died with measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh in the 24 hours to Thursday morning (June 25), the Directorate General of Health Services said in its daily measles update, released on Thursday afternoon. No deaths from laboratory-confirmed measles cases were recorded in that period.

A further 945 children were affected during the same 24 hours: 52 confirmed measles cases and 893 with measles-like symptoms. A total of 860 children were newly hospitalised, while 906 were discharged.

The cumulative death toll since the outbreak began on March 15 stands at 698 children: 605 who died with measles-like symptoms and 93 from confirmed measles. A total of 96,653 suspected cases and 11,442 confirmed cases have been recorded since the outbreak began; of those, 80,497 required hospitalisation.
