Saudi Arabia will respond firmly to any attack, says MBS

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has warned that the kingdom will take firm action against any attack on its security, while continuing efforts to reduce regional tensions and resolve crises diplomatically.

He spoke on Wednesday at the opening of the third year of the Shura Council’s ninth session, Arab News reported.

Recent attacks targeting Gulf states have threatened the region’s security and stability, he said. Saudi Arabia is working to de-escalate and find diplomatic solutions without compromising on security, but Riyadh will not hesitate to take firm action against any threat or attack aimed at undermining its security.

Saudi Arabia is working with Gulf partners to strengthen regional security and expand strategic and economic cooperation, he said, describing the “Mecca defence pact” between Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan as a reflection of joint efforts to ensure regional security and stability.

Expressing concern about global energy security, the crown prince said Saudi Arabia is contributing to it by keeping oil supplies flowing to international markets despite rising tensions, and has taken steps to form a “multinational maritime defence alliance” to protect international waterways.

Condemning attacks on Palestinians in Gaza, he called for an effective role by the international community and the UN Security Council in reaching a lasting political solution, and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to an independent Palestinian state. He also pledged continued Saudi support for establishing the government’s authority in Yemen and confronting the Houthis, and for Sudan’s unity, stability and legitimate institutions.

Highlighting economic progress, he said Saudi non-oil exports have risen 155 percent since 2016 and the private sector’s share of the economy has reached 51 percent. Describing 2026 as the “year of AI”, he set out the goal of achieving global leadership in artificial intelligence.
