WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has renamed the much-discussed Strait of Hormuz after himself.

On Thursday, Trump shared a map on Truth Social labeling the Strait of Hormuz as the “Strait of Trump” or “Trump Strait.”

He had used the phrase “Trump Strait” earlier in a speech. When the audience laughed at his remark, the US president said: “The media may at first call it a ‘mistake,’ but everyone knows I rarely make mistakes.”

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said Thursday: “The US naval blockade on Iranian ports will further destabilize the Gulf region and will fail to achieve its objectives.” In a statement, Pezeshkian said: “Any attempt to impose a naval blockade or restrictions in violation of international law is bound to fail.”

“Such steps will not only fail to strengthen regional security, but in reality will become a source of tension in the Gulf region and disrupt lasting stability,” he said.
