The government has formed a 27-member “National Steering Committee on the Creative Economy” to prepare sector-wise roadmaps for the creative economy and review progress on their implementation.
The Cabinet Division issued a notice to this effect on Sunday (9 August).
According to the notice, the finance and planning minister will serve as the committee’s chair. Its members include the ministers for culture, industries, commerce, and housing and public works; the state minister for planning; and the adviser to the finance and planning ministry.
Also on the committee are the advisers to the posts, telecommunications and IT ministry and the science and technology ministry; the prime minister’s special assistant for health at the health and family welfare ministry; and the adviser to the information, broadcasting and culture ministry.
The secretaries of the finance; information and broadcasting; youth and sports; culture; industries; civil aviation and tourism; women and children’s affairs; ICT; and housing and public works ministries will serve as members.
Representatives of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) chairman, BRAC, HSBC Bangladesh, the Bengal Foundation and Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology have also been made members.
Entrepreneur, fashion designer and model Bibi Russell has been made a member as a sector specialist, along with one more sector specialist, while the additional secretary (macro and TDM) of the Finance Division will serve as member-secretary.
According to the notice, the national steering committee will approve roadmaps for various creative-economy sectors and review progress on their implementation. It will also coordinate inter-ministerial and inter-agency activities and give the necessary guidance.
The committee will review the work of the various sector-based committees and assess progress on the roadmaps and related activities on a quarterly basis. It may include new members as needed and will meet as required, with the Finance Division providing secretarial support.
