Four Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami members of parliament have complained of luggage problems on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
They are Rashedul Islam Rashed (Sherpur-1), Mohammad Kamal Hossain (Dhaka-5), Salahuddin Ayubi (Gazipur-4) and Jahangir Hussain (Khulna-2).
According to the four MPs, Biman flight BG338 from Madinah landed in Dhaka at 8:55am on Thursday (October 1), but most passengers had still not received their tagged luggage three hours later. They lodged a written complaint with Biman alleging passenger harassment, failure to hand over luggage properly and negligence of duty.
The complaint, addressed to Biman’s managing director, says most passengers on the flight did not receive their tagged luggage despite waiting a long time, and that at least 35 MPs were among the passengers. Despite the long delay, no reasonable explanation was given and no steps were taken, causing suffering and harassment, and passengers were forced to wait at the airport for a long time. The complainants demanded effective action to resolve the matter quickly.
Dhaka-5 MP Mohammad Kamal Hossain posted a photo of the complaint on his Facebook page, writing: “Where will this suffering at Shahjalal International Airport end? On behalf of ordinary passengers of flight BG338, which landed at 8:55am today, we four members of parliament have lodged a complaint with Biman over passenger harassment, failure to hand over luggage properly and negligence of duty.”
Biman sources confirmed the airline had received the complaint and said show-cause notices had been issued to those responsible.
